For children who have trouble walking and need therapy, it's often uncomfortable. In San Diego, therapy dogs are being used to help motivate.
Deanna works with Toby and, in turn, gets plenty of physical therapy. Getting Toby a treat helps with walking. Throwing him a ball helps with walking and endurance. Kids even stand in a cart while the dogs pull them and this helps with balance.
This type of therapy may be unconventional but volunteers say it works.
The kids don't think of it as exercise... they simply love the time spent with their new canine friends.
