Cerebral palsy often means stiff muscles and, for many children, trouble getting their body to cooperate.
11 year old, Amy Tuten has the chronic condition, which affects motor skills and produces severe muscle tightness. Five years ago, Howard Weiner, MD, a neurosurgeon from NYU Medical Center, gave Amy an implanted drug pump. This refillable pump delivers an anti-spasticity drug into the spinal fluid to continuously bathe the nervous system. It's said to help loosen up muscles and help children function.
Amy's mother says this pump has made a big difference in what Amy is able to do and how she lives her daily life.
