A therapeutic method known as Respiratory Masking is available through the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential (The Doman Organization) .
In this therapy, a small plastic mask fits over the nose and mouth of the brain injured child. Patients mostly take in their own recycled breath as the bag balloons and shrinks. The Doman organization (Iahp) says the exercise funnels more oxygen to an injured brain. According to reports, the mask is worn by some- up to 40 times a day.
In these two videos, Sophia, who has Cerebral Palsy is seen undergoing the therapy. The voice you hear in the background is her father, Hulet Smith, who is an Occupational Therapist.
Both Hulet and his wife, Megan, attended sessions at the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential which instructs on the proper way to perform this type of therapy.
This video clip is for educational purposes only.
Respiratory Masking should always be done under the supervision of a professional who has had proper training.
